Millions in Cuba Endure Second Night Without Power Amid Nationwide Blackout

Jarida Report

Cuba experienced a nationwide blackout on Friday evening, March 14, 2025, following a failure at the Diezmero substation near Havana. This incident left approximately 10 million people without electricity, marking the fourth major outage in less than six months.  The aging infrastructure and fuel shortages have exacerbated the island’s ongoing economic crisis, leading to widespread shortages of food, fuel, and medicine.  As of Saturday, efforts to restore power were underway, with priority given to essential services like hospitals. However, progress has been slow, and many residents have endured a second night without electricity.  The government has implemented energy-saving measures, but the situation remains critical, highlighting the urgent need for infrastructure improvements.
