MQM-P Demands Two Seats on Parliamentary Electoral Reforms Committee

Jarida Report

ISLAMABAD: Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) has demanded two seats on the Parliamentary Committee on Electoral Reforms, expressing reservations over the government’s decision to allocate only one seat to the party.

The issue of representation for coalition partners has emerged as a challenge for the government, with MQM-P calling for a review of the proposed committee structure.

MQM-P leader Syed Aminul Haque contacted the government’s Chief Whip, Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, by telephone and urged him to reconsider the allocation.

Haque said the party had 22 members in the National Assembly and, as a major government coalition partner, deserved two seats on the parliamentary body.

He stressed that MQM-P should receive adequate representation to participate effectively in the electoral reform process.

Chaudhry assured the MQM-P leader that the party’s concerns would be conveyed to the relevant leadership.

According to Haque, the government is expected to respond to the demand within two to three days. He expressed hope that the authorities would reconsider the decision and accept the party’s request for greater representation.
