Stewart passed away at his Los Angeles home on Wednesday, October 28, following a brief period of illness involving Alzheimer’s disease and Lewy body dementia, according to a statement released by his representatives.

With a career spanning more than six decades, Stewart became one of Britain’s most respected performers, earning international recognition for his commanding presence, distinctive voice and remarkable versatility.

Before achieving worldwide fame on screen, he established himself as a distinguished Shakespearean actor, performing extensively with the Royal Shakespeare Company and appearing in major theatre productions.

Beyond acting, Stewart was recognised for his humanitarian work, supporting survivors of domestic violence, refugees, veterans’ mental health initiatives and animal welfare causes.

Knighted for his services to drama, Stewart leaves behind a legacy that extends from classical theatre to some of the most celebrated science-fiction franchises in entertainment history.

His family and representatives remembered him for the dignity, compassion and humanity he brought to both his performances and his personal life.
