H1N1 Influenza Cases Surge Across Karachi as Hospitals Report Rise in Patients

Jarida Report

Hospitals across Karachi are witnessing a sharp increase in influenza cases, with doctors detecting the H1N1 strain among patients presenting with respiratory infections.

Medical professionals report a growing number of patients visiting outpatient departments and emergency rooms with symptoms including fever, persistent cough, sore throat, body aches and breathing difficulties.

Children, older adults and people with underlying medical conditions face a greater risk of developing serious complications from the infection.

Doctors say most patients can recover at home with adequate rest, hydration and appropriate treatment. However, those experiencing persistent fever, worsening symptoms or difficulty breathing have been advised to seek medical attention promptly.

Health experts have also warned against self-medication, particularly the unnecessary use of antibiotics, which do not treat viral infections such as influenza.

Residents experiencing flu-like symptoms are encouraged to wear masks, avoid crowded spaces and limit close contact with others to help prevent the spread of the virus.

Medical professionals have emphasised the importance of seasonal influenza vaccination, especially for vulnerable groups.

The increase in cases comes amid seasonal respiratory virus activity across Pakistan, with cooler weather contributing to the spread of infections.

Health officials maintain that influenza vaccines remain available and that no nationwide shortage has been reported.
