Field Marshal Asim Munir Vows Continued Crackdown on Militants During Peshawar Visit

Jarida Report

Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir has reaffirmed the military’s determination to intensify counter-terrorism operations, pledging to pursue militant groups that Pakistan accuses of receiving support from India.

According to a statement issued by the military’s media wing, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), on Friday, the army chief made the remarks during a visit to Corps Headquarters in Peshawar.

He was received by the Commander Peshawar Corps and briefed on the security situation in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, ongoing counter-terrorism operations, border management arrangements and the operational readiness of military formations deployed across the province.

The briefing also covered measures being taken to address security threats and maintain preparedness in the region.

During the visit, Field Marshal Munir acknowledged the commitment and operational performance of military personnel serving in the province.

“Field Marshal commended the high morale and professionalism of officers and troops, directing them to continue vigilance and highest standards of operational readiness to effectively counter threats,” the ISPR statement said.

The military chief also reiterated Pakistan’s determination to continue operations against groups it alleges are backed by India.

“He underscored that we would continue the campaign against Indian sponsored terrorist outfits to the fullest and hit them hard wherever they are,” ISPR stated.

Field Marshal Munir also paid tribute to civilians and security personnel who had lost their lives or suffered injuries in terrorist attacks and counter-terrorism operations.

According to ISPR, he expressed confidence that the military, with public support, would succeed in defeating militant groups and their ideology.

“While paying tributes to the sacrifices of the people of Pakistan, including Shuhada and Ghazis of the security forces, CDF Munir affirmed that with the support of the people, Pakistan would surely inflict total defeat to the terrorists and their perverted ideology,” the statement concluded.

The army chief’s visit followed his arrival in Peshawar on Thursday to participate in a meeting of the Federal Apex Committee on the National Action Plan, chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

The meeting focused on the security challenges confronting Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and reviewed efforts to strengthen counter-terrorism measures in the province.

The federal government reiterated its commitment to restoring stability while accelerating economic and development initiatives.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Shehbaz defended the imposition of emergency measures and governor’s rule in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, arguing that the deteriorating security situation had made such steps necessary.

He also pledged to pursue lasting peace, improved governance and development in the province.

The developments come as Pakistan’s civilian and military leadership continues to review security arrangements and counter-terrorism strategies in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.
