KARACHI: The post-mortem reports of an elderly couple found dead at their home in North Karachi have revealed severe head injuries, police said on Thursday.
The victims were identified as Muhammad Yamin, aged between 65 and 70, and his wife, Nafis Akhtar, aged between 60 and 65. According to the police surgeon, both suffered deep head wounds, and investigators suspect they were attacked with a heavy, blunt object.
Samples were collected during the post-mortem examinations and will undergo chemical analysis to determine whether either victim was given poison or an intoxicating substance before the killings.
A murder case has been registered at Sir Syed Police Station on the complaint of Muhammad Anwar, the deceased man’s brother.
According to the complainant, Yamin and his wife had recently returned from Canada. After their return, Yamin reportedly asked his sister to vacate the house and began renovation work on the property.
Anwar said he became concerned when the couple failed to answer phone calls on the day of the incident. He went to their house, opened the door with a duplicate key and found the bodies lying in a pool of blood in the television lounge before alerting the police.
Police said the motive for the killings remains unknown, and no suspects have been identified so far. Investigators have also been unable to trace labourers who had been working at the property.
Police have launched further inquiries, questioning workers in the surrounding area and other individuals considered relevant to the investigation.
