Sindh CM Invites Chinese Firm to Develop 100-Km K-4 Water Pipeline for Karachi

Jarida Report

WUHAN: Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah visited the HBSZ company in Wuhan, China, on Tuesday, inviting the firm to undertake a water pipeline project spanning more than 100 kilometres for Karachi and reviewing preparations for new gates for the Sukkur Barrage.

The chief minister said the proposed pipeline was intended to improve Karachi’s water supply. He stressed the need for early completion and said the Sindh government wanted work to begin as soon as possible. The Chinese company expressed willingness to undertake the project, according to the report.

Shah was welcomed by the company’s project management office and project implementation consultant. Sindh Irrigation Minister Jam Khan Shoro also visited the facility.

During the visit, Shah inspected gates being manufactured for the Sukkur Barrage, describing the structure as vital to Sindh’s economy and water management. He said improvements in water flow had been achieved around 90 years after the barrage’s formal restoration.

New, large gates are being manufactured in China as part of efforts to restore and modernise the Sukkur Barrage, which serves a major irrigation command area in the province.
