TAIZ: Yemeni government forces have launched a large-scale military operation against Houthi fighters in an effort to seize the Al-Wazi’iyah district in southwestern Taiz province.
The Nation’s Shield Forces said the offensive was part of the broader “Dawn of Yemen” operation and reported capturing strategic hilltops overlooking Al-Mansoura as Houthi fighters retreated.
Local sources told state-run Aljoumhouriya TV that warplanes also struck Houthi reinforcements near the centre of Al-Wazi’iyah.
Meanwhile, government forces continued their advance on the southern front of Marib province, reportedly capturing several strategic positions and mountain ranges.
A military source said dozens of Houthi fighters were killed, wounded or captured, while three weapons positions and several military vehicles were destroyed. These battlefield claims could not be independently verified.
