Russia Says It Will Step Up Strikes On Ukraine After Zelenskiy Interview

Jarida Report

MOSCOW: Russia will intensify strikes on Kyiv and other parts of Ukraine, the Russian Defence Ministry said on Sunday, following Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy’s comments that Kyiv would increase attacks on Russian oil refineries.

The ministry said Russian forces would step up strikes on military facilities, defence industry sites and related infrastructure in Kyiv and other parts of Ukraine.

In an interview with Reuters published on Saturday, Zelenskiy said Ukraine would double down on attacks against Russian refineries in response to Moscow’s recent airstrike campaign. He said the attacks would not target civilians.

Russia has recently intensified strikes on infrastructure in Kyiv, including bridges across the Dnipro River. The campaign has disrupted daily life in the capital ahead of the winter months.

The Russian Defence Ministry said its strikes on Kyiv and other Ukrainian regions were in response to what it described as attacks by Ukraine on civilian targets inside Russia.

Both Russia and Ukraine deny targeting civilians.
