An Azerbaijani woman at the centre of an alleged gang-rape case in Lahore left Pakistan for her home country on Sunday, days after she reportedly refused to board an earlier flight over concerns about leaving before pursuing her case.
The woman, identified as Diana, departed Lahore for Baku accompanied by three Lahore Police officers, according to police sources.
Officials said the arrangement was made at the request of the Azerbaijani embassy. The police team accompanying her includes female Assistant Superintendent of Police Barira, Deputy Superintendent of Police Qamar Abbas and Gender Cell In-Charge Fariyal.
The officers are expected to remain with Diana during her journey until she reaches Azerbaijan.
Her departure follows an incident on Friday when she had reportedly completed boarding procedures at Lahore airport but later decided not to travel.
According to reports, Diana raised concerns at the airport, saying she wanted to continue pursuing her case in Pakistan and alleging that she was being sent back against her wishes.
She subsequently departed for Azerbaijan on Sunday under the arrangements made with the Azerbaijani embassy.
