MURREE: At least 12 children were injured after a private school van plunged into a ravine near Lower Mohra Bara Hotar in Murree and caught fire.
According to initial reports, the van fell into the ravine after its brakes allegedly failed. The vehicle caught fire shortly after the accident.
Rescue teams reached the site after receiving the alert, extinguished the blaze and evacuated the children from the van before shifting them to Civil Hospital.
Four children who sustained severe burns were later transferred to Holy Family Hospital in Rawalpindi for further treatment.
Murree District Police Officer (DPO) Muhammad Raza Tanveer Supra said no fatalities had been reported. He added that an investigation into the incident had been launched.
The DPO said the technical condition of locally operated school vans would also be inspected more thoroughly to help prevent similar accidents.
Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, who was in Murree at the time, expressed concern over the incident and sought a report from the authorities. She directed the administration to ensure the provision of the best possible medical treatment to all injured children.
