The Board of Peace on Tuesday reiterated its objectives for Gaza ahead of the UN General Assembly, urging international partners to support a framework aimed at consolidating the ceasefire and advancing a longer-term settlement.
In a statement on X, the board identified its main objectives as the demilitarisation and deradicalisation of Gaza, sustained humanitarian assistance and reconstruction, effective Palestinian civilian and security administration, and lasting security for both Palestinians and Israelis.
The board, chaired by US President Donald Trump, said the framework had helped pave the way for the release and return of all Israeli hostages, the Gaza Peace Summit in Sharm El-Sheikh and subsequent measures, including UN Security Council Resolution 2803 and the establishment of the Board of Peace.
It said an agreement reached with Hamas on July 30 provided a roadmap for subsequent stages of the ceasefire, including demilitarisation, Israeli withdrawal, Palestinian administration and reconstruction.
The board urged all sides to fulfil their commitments and refrain from steps that could jeopardise the ceasefire. It also called on international partners to turn political backing for the framework into practical commitments.
“UNGA provides an opportunity to consolidate the international community behind one agreed framework,” the statement said, emphasising diplomacy as the route towards lasting peace and security in Gaza.
The initiative comes against the backdrop of extensive casualties and destruction from the war in Gaza. According to figures provided in the report, more than 73,000 Palestinians have been killed and over 174,000 injured since October 8, 2023, while around 90% of Gaza’s infrastructure has been damaged or destroyed.
