Rawalpindi:The family of Hina Javed, who was killed in Rawalpindi, has raised serious concerns over the police investigation into her death, alleging that investigators are shifting their focus towards a domestic worker rather than pursuing the main suspect.
The family has formally approached the chairman of the National Commission for Human Rights, the Ministry of Law and the parliamentary caucus committee, seeking intervention in the investigation.
In a letter written by Javed’s brother, the family alleged that the direction of the investigation was being deliberately diverted towards the domestic worker in an attempt to conceal the circumstances surrounding the killing.
Among several concerns raised, the family claimed that a bloodstained sheet recovered from the crime scene was handed over to Javed’s father-in-law rather than being secured by police as evidence.
It further alleged that chats and messages exchanged between Javed and her sister had been deleted from the victim’s mobile phone.
The family also accused investigators of extending undue relief to Javed’s father-in-law, who has been named in the case. It claimed that the room belonging to main suspect Faisal Asghar was not thoroughly searched and that his mobile phone and laptop were not seized for forensic examination.
According to the family, investigators have also failed to conduct forensic examination of the web activity on mobile phones belonging to the main suspect and the domestic worker.
Concerns were additionally raised over what the family described as an unusual delay in obtaining DNA and other forensic reports from the Punjab Forensic Science Agency.
The family alleged that police had yet to record statements from several potentially important witnesses, including the driver, other employees, Faisal Asghar’s brother Kamil and neighbours.
It also questioned why investigators had so far failed to establish a motive for the killing.
The family has called for the case to be transferred immediately to an independent investigation team and requested comprehensive forensic examinations of all relevant electronic devices. It has also sought the early release of DNA and other reports from the Punjab Forensic Science Agency.
The family said Hina Javed had been “brutally murdered” and that they were still waiting for justice.
