Apple enters foldable-phone market with $1,999 iPhone Duo

Jarida Report

CUPERTINO: Apple has unveiled its first foldable smartphone, the iPhone Duo, marking one of the biggest design changes to the iPhone line in years and putting the company directly into competition with Samsung, Huawei and other established foldable-phone makers.

The passport-shaped device has a 5.4-inch outer screen and opens into a 7.6-inch display, allowing users to run two apps side by side. It is powered by Apple’s new A20 Pro processor and includes a redesigned hinge, Touch ID in the side button, Apple Pencil support and storage options of up to 2 terabytes.

Prices start at $1,999, making it Apple’s most expensive base-model iPhone. Pre-orders are due to begin on October 16, with the device going on sale on October 23.

The launch was also the first major product event led by Apple’s new chief executive, John Ternus, who succeeded Tim Cook earlier this month. Apple also unveiled the iPhone 18 Pro series, new Apple Watch models and updated AirPods.
