KARACHI: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi vowed on Sunday that he would not leave Sindh without holding a PTI rally in Karachi, as his convoy continued towards the provincial capital amid competing claims over road blockades and restrictions.
Afridi, accompanied by PTI KP President Junaid Akbar and other party leaders, is on a five-day mobilisation campaign in Sindh ahead of the party’s planned September 27 nationwide protest seeking the release of PTI founder Imran Khan and medical treatment for him at Shifa International Hospital.
PTI alleged that authorities were placing obstacles along the convoy’s route and detaining party workers in several Sindh cities. Police disputed claims that roads had been blocked to prevent the procession from reaching Karachi.
Afridi said the convoy would overcome any hurdles and proceed first through Hyderabad and then towards Karachi. Videos shared by PTI leaders showed supporters welcoming the procession at different points along the route.
The planned Karachi gathering has become the most prominent event of Afridi’s Sindh tour and comes as PTI attempts to build nationwide momentum for its September 27 mobilisation.
The Sindh campaign also carries political significance for PTI as it seeks to expand its support in a province traditionally dominated by the Pakistan Peoples Party.
