The judicial commission investigating the murder of Wafflix owner Mir Raza Ali on Friday announced a Rs100,000 reward for credible information that could help establish the circumstances surrounding his death.
The commission, headed by Sindh High Court Justice Omar Sial, said it would seek information directly from the public through advertisements in Urdu, English and Sindhi newspapers. A dedicated email address and WhatsApp number will also be provided for people wishing to contact the inquiry.
“We will publish an advertisement so that anyone who has information can contact us,” Justice Sial said during the proceedings, adding that anyone providing significant information would be eligible for the Rs100,000 reward.
The commission also directed authorities to display notices at the location where Ali’s body was discovered, allowing potential witnesses or anyone with relevant information to come forward.
Ali went missing on July 28, and his body was recovered from Karachi’s Gulistan-e-Jauhar area the following day. Police initially treated the death as a suspected suicide, an assessment disputed by his family.
The case subsequently took a significant turn after Ali’s body was exhumed and a second post-mortem examination found that he had been shot in the back and showed signs of torture, leading to murder charges being added to the case.
The Sindh High Court constituted the judicial commission earlier this week at the request of the provincial government.
Ali’s family, however, has opposed the judicial commission and has instead called for the formation of a joint investigation team (JIT) to investigate the killing.
