PTI founder Imran Khan’s sister Noreen Niazi was permitted to meet him at Adiala Jail on Tuesday, hours after the Supreme Court directed authorities to facilitate regular family meetings amid concerns over the former prime minister’s health.
Imran’s three sisters — Aleema Khan, Dr Uzma Khanum and Noreen Niazi — reached the Dahgal checkpoint on the road leading to the prison following the court’s order.
Police initially stopped all three at the checkpoint but subsequently allowed Noreen to proceed to the jail, while Aleema and Dr Uzma were not permitted to continue.
According to jail authorities, Noreen entered the prison through Gate 5 and was scheduled to meet Imran in the jail’s conference room.
Meanwhile, Bushra Bibi was also allowed a family meeting, attended by her daughter Mehrunnisa and sister-in-law Musarrat Khawar Maneka, jail officials said.
The meetings followed an order issued earlier on Tuesday by a three-member Supreme Court bench headed by Justice Shahid Waheed, directing the government to arrange weekly meetings between Imran and his family.
The court was considering petitions concerning Imran’s access to his sisters and personal physicians, as well as his medical condition.
The directions came after reports submitted to the Supreme Court on Monday raised concerns about the former premier’s fluctuating blood pressure and anxiety.
A medical board recommended that Imran be given more frequent opportunities to meet his spouse and immediate family, identifying increased family interaction as one of the measures that could help reduce his stress and manage his health concerns.
