The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) on Friday issued a flood alert, warning that rising river levels and heavy rainfall between July 31 and August 2 could trigger flooding in several parts of the country.
According to the NDMA, a medium-level flood is already flowing at Guddu on the Indus River, while low-level flooding continues at Kalabagh, Chashma and Sukkur.
The Chenab River is expected to experience medium to high flows at Marala, while medium-level flows are forecast for the Jhelum, Ravi and Kabul rivers, as well as nearby streams.
The authority warned of high water flows in the hill torrents of Dera Ghazi Khan and Rajanpur, with flash floods also likely in parts of central and southern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and northern Balochistan.
Districts at risk include Mohmand, Bajaur, Buner, Mardan, Kurram, South Waziristan, Shangla and Peshawar, while the Nari, Bolan, Kachhi and Lehri rivers could also experience sudden flooding.
The NDMA further warned of urban flooding in several cities, including Rawalpindi, Jhelum, Gujranwala, Sargodha, Mandi Bahauddin, Sialkot, Gujrat, Narowal, Lahore, Okara, Sahiwal, Faisalabad, Nawabshah, Sukkur, Shaheed Benazirabad, Hyderabad, Thatta, Badin, Sanghar and Khairpur.
Flood risks have also been reported in Mithi, Mirpur Khas, Umerkot, Tando Muhammad Khan, Tando Allahyar and Tharparkar.
The NDMA has directed district administrations to implement precautionary measures and urged the public to avoid unnecessary travel to flood-prone areas as authorities continue to monitor the evolving weather situation.
