Assam Flood Death Toll Rises to 41 as More Than 700,000 Affected

Jarida Report

The death toll from flooding in India’s northeastern Assam state has risen to 41 after 10 more fatalities were reported over the past 24 hours, state officials said on Wednesday.

In a statement, the Assam State Disaster Management Authority said the latest deaths were recorded across five districts.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the floods have affected more than 700,000 people, while three individuals remain missing.

He said the state had experienced an unprecedented pattern of extreme weather.

“Cloudbursts and floods have struck even those districts of Assam where such an impact had not been witnessed before,” Sarma said.

The Chief Minister’s Office said all government departments had been instructed to maintain a continuous presence in affected areas and accelerate rescue, relief, restoration and rehabilitation efforts.

Authorities said operations would continue until every affected family had been reached and normal conditions restored.
