Pakistan Receives First Ro-Ro Shipment of More Than 2,000 Electric Vehicles

Jarida Report

Pakistan has received its first-ever Roll-on/Roll-off (Ro-Ro) shipment carrying more than 2,000 electric vehicles (EVs), marking a significant milestone for the country’s maritime and automotive sectors.

According to a press release issued on Friday, the shipment arrived aboard MV Grande Shanghai, which berthed at the KICT/KGTML terminal at Karachi Port.

The development was described as a major achievement by Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry, who said the successful arrival of the first Ro-Ro EV shipment represents a breakthrough for Pakistan’s shipping and logistics industry.

The minister noted that Roll-on/Roll-off (Ro-Ro) shipping enables vehicles to be driven directly onto and off a vessel using built-in ramps, eliminating the need for cranes or container handling.

He said the system offers a faster, more efficient and cost-effective alternative to conventional container shipping and is expected to enhance Pakistan’s maritime trade capabilities.
