Netanyahu Returns to Court as Corruption Trial Resumes

Jarida Report

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu appeared before the Jerusalem District Court on Wednesday as hearings resumed in his long-running corruption trial.

Video footage showed Netanyahu arriving at the courthouse for the latest session.

According to Israeli newspaper Maariv, Wednesday’s hearing included testimony from Minister Ze’ev Elkin, whose name appears several times in the indictment related to Case 2000, in which Netanyahu is charged with fraud and breach of trust.

The trial is expected to continue until July 20 before the judiciary begins its summer recess. Proceedings are scheduled to resume in early September, after which the court will hold hearings five days a week following the October holidays, the report said.

Israel is due to hold general elections on October 27, with Netanyahu seeking another term as prime minister.

The veteran Israeli leader is facing charges of bribery, fraud and breach of trust in three separate cases—known as Cases 1000, 2000 and 4000. The indictments were filed in November 2019 by then-Attorney General Avichai Mandelblit.

Netanyahu has denied all allegations against him.
