A sailor was killed after a drone attack targeted four vessels, including a methanol tanker, in Russia’s Taganrog Bay in the Sea of Azov, regional authorities said on Saturday.
Yuri Slyusar, governor of Russia’s southern Rostov region, said the victim was a crew member aboard a technical support vessel.
“A seaman on a technical support vessel has lost his life. I offer my condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased. No one else was injured,” Slyusar wrote on Telegram.
He said the vessels sustained varying degrees of damage but stressed that there was “no risk of a methanol spill or leak.”
According to Slyusar, Russian air defences intercepted more than a dozen drones during the overnight attack. Separately, Russia’s Defence Ministry said 178 Ukrainian drones had been shot down across multiple regions.
The latest strike comes a day after drone attacks sparked fires at two fuel depots and the Taganrog seaport, underscoring the intensifying aerial campaign in the conflict.
