More Than 100 Detained During Anti-NATO Protest in Ankara

Jarida Report

Turkish authorities detained more than 100 people during an anti-NATO protest in Ankara on Sunday, according to the Communist Party of Turkey (TKP).

The party said the demonstration was held in the capital’s Kizilay Square ahead of the NATO summit scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday, which will bring together leaders of the alliance’s 32 member states and partner countries.

Authorities have tightened security across Ankara ahead of the summit, including banning demonstrations, restricting access to parts of the city and closing several roads.

The TKP said more than 100 of its members, including party officials, were detained during the protest. Video footage showed demonstrators carrying flags and chanting anti-NATO slogans before riot police dispersed the crowd using tear gas.
