Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has ordered a transparent and impartial inquiry into the alleged assault case involving two foreign women in Lahore.
Speaking at a press conference, Deputy Inspector General (Operations) Faisal Kamran said the chief minister had taken notice of the incident and directed that the investigation be conducted by Lahore Police rather than the Crime Control Department (CCD).
Kamran said a man identified as Carlos had reported that his daughter and her friend had been abducted. According to police, the women travelled from Islamabad to Lahore, where they later escaped from a vehicle and sought refuge in a nearby shop. He added that investigators had traced and documented the vehicle’s route.
The DIG said all legal procedures had been completed and the accused had been produced before a court. He also questioned how a statement recorded under Section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code had been leaked, adding that a magistrate’s approval was required before conducting a medical examination.
Kamran further said that a suspect known as “Boss,” whose real name is Waheed, has a criminal record with 10 registered cases.
