Wildfires Burn Over 1,000 Hectares Across Southern France

Jarida Report

More than 1,000 hectares of land have been scorched by multiple wildfires across southern France, with hundreds of firefighters continuing efforts to contain the blazes amid strong winds and dry conditions.

The largest fire, which began in Pouzols-Minervois in the Herault department before spreading into neighbouring Aude, has burned more than 800 hectares. Although the blaze was brought under control on Thursday morning, firefighters warned that active hotspots remain due to persistent winds.

Around 350 residents were evacuated as a precaution. Authorities said no homes had been destroyed, though some vineyards suffered partial damage.

Two other significant wildfires also broke out north of Marseille in the Bouches-du-Rhone department. One fire in Rognac was contained overnight after burning around 50 hectares, damaging two warehouses, a public works company building, several vehicles and an outbuilding. No injuries were reported.
