Microsoft is preparing to announce another round of job cuts as part of efforts to reduce costs, Business Insider reported on Wednesday, citing people familiar with the matter.
The layoffs are expected to affect thousands of employees across the company’s sales, consulting and Xbox gaming divisions, although the reductions are projected to account for less than 2.5% of Microsoft’s 220,000-strong workforce.
According to the report, the company is expected to announce the cuts next week, though the timing could still change. Some affected employees may be offered alternative roles within the company.
If confirmed, the move would mark Microsoft’s third major round of layoffs in just over a year, following the elimination of 6,000 jobs last May and another 9,000 positions in July last year.
