Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Tuesday dismissed rumours regarding Dr Yasmin Rashid’s health, saying the senior party leader is alive and currently being held at Kot Lakhpat Jail.
PTI Central Information Secretary Sheikh Waqas Akram said in a post on X that Dr Yasmin was “Alhamdulillah, alive” and enduring imprisonment “for the sake of her leader Imran Khan’s ideology.”
He rejected reports circulating on social media about her condition, urging the public not to believe what he described as false and baseless rumours.
Separately, Dr Yasmin’s lawyer, Advocate Rana Mudassar Umar, also issued a statement clarifying reports regarding an alleged will. He said he and members of the PTI leadership met Dr Yasmin in Kot Lakhpat Jail during a court hearing after a week, adding that the reports being circulated were inaccurate.
Dr Yasmin, 74, a gynaecologist and cancer survivor, has been in custody since May 2023 in connection with multiple cases linked to the unrest following the arrest of PTI founder Imran Khan.
