Commercial Traffic Through Strait of Hormuz Slows After Vessel Attacks

Jarida Report

Commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz continued at a reduced pace over the weekend after attacks on two vessels renewed concerns over security along one of the world’s most critical energy corridors.

Shipping data showed that some vessels were still transiting the strait despite the incidents involving the Singapore-registered container ship Ever Lovely on June 25 and the Panama-flagged tanker M/T Kiku on June 27.

While the continued movement of ships suggests some operators remain willing to use the waterway, the reduced traffic reflects growing caution among shipowners, insurers and charterers following the latest escalation.

The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore said the Ever Lovely sustained minor damage to its bridge after being struck by an unidentified projectile while departing the strait. The vessel later completed its voyage safely, and all 21 crew members were reported unharmed.
