Dua Lipa Launches Library of Banned Books in Portugal

Jarida Report

British singer Dua Lipa has unveiled the Manifesto Library at the historic Livraria Lello bookstore in Porto, Portugal, featuring a collection of 100 banned and censored books.

The library marks the first physical extension of Dua’s Service95 Book Club, which she launched in 2022. The club recommends a new book each month, with Dua interviewing its author in a companion podcast.

Designed as a space for reading, discussion and cultural exchange, the Manifesto Library aims to encourage conversations about literature, freedom of expression and the exchange of ideas.

Describing the initiative as a “dream partnership,” Dua said the library is “a shrine to books that have disappeared.”

Inviting visitors to explore the collection, she said: “Visit and decide for yourself what belongs on these shelves,” adding that “sometimes, the most subversive thing you can do is read a book and then talk about it.”
