A Strong Iran Is Favorable to the USA, Arab States, and Israel

Rev. Javed Yousaf

Iran holds immense strategic and economic importance for the United States because of its geographical control over the Strait of Hormuz, a vital chokepoint through which approximately 20% of the world’s daily oil and gas shipments pass.

Iran was a major ally of America when Russia was a socialist union, and it was one of the few countries willing to face Russian pressure directly. When Turkey withdrew its support from America, Iran remained one of the dependable partners resisting Russian socialist aggression.

Iran has also, in the writer’s view, served Israel in many ways, from defense to agriculture.

A damaged and economically weakened Iran is therefore not beneficial for Israel, the USA, or the capitalist economy.

The US and Iran are currently engaged in negotiations aimed at reaching a long-term peace agreement to officially end the ongoing conflict that began earlier in 2026.

The importance of Iran to American interests comes from several critical factors:

1. Iran’s control over the Strait of Hormuz strongly affects global energy prices, and any war there can become extremely costly for the United States and for global energy security.

2. A blockade by Iran has historically had the potential to disrupt nearly one-fifth of the world’s seaborne oil trade.

3. Iran remains a central player in Middle Eastern geopolitics, and its relative stability is important for regional peace.

4. Continued conflict with Iran, combined with nuclear tensions, raises global concerns about nuclear proliferation.

5. Prolonged instability in the region can contribute to wider security threats and international uncertainty.

6. Sustained war also affects workers, economic stability, and human welfare inside Iran, which can have broader international consequences.

7. Skilled workers who could contribute to economic growth instead become victims of war and destruction.

8. Military and economic conflict with Iran also has major domestic consequences for the United States, including higher energy prices, increased military spending, and effects on American politics and elections.

Because of these interconnected concerns, relations with Iran remain highly important for the United States and for regional security.

The writer further proposes that, while rebuilding Iran, a city similar to Vatican City for the Pope could be established for the Imam in a place where holy shrines are located. This could be considered a blessed development for Shia Muslims.

Special guards could be deployed for the protection of the Imam shrines, and a holy cleric could be elected. It could function as an independent state. The writer also argues that Christians historically honored martyrs and helped shelter and defend their remains in churches; therefore, providing secure places for Imams would be consistent with that tradition.
