Over Three Million Years of Palestinian life lost due to Israel-Palestine Conflict, according to Lancet Study

Jarida Report

More than three million years of human life have been lost in Gaza since the conflict began, according to new research published in The Lancet, one of the world’s leading medical journals. The study analysed data on 60,199 Palestinians killed between October 7, 2023 and July 31, 2025. Researchers calculated each death resulted in an average of 51 years of life lost. The findings showed most victims were civilians and more than one million life-years lost involved children less than the age of 15. The authors – Sammy Zahran from Colorado State University and Ghassan Abu Sittah from the American University of Beirut – emphasised their figures are conservative. The study only counted direct deaths from military action, excluding those who died from destroyed infrastructure, restricted food and water, and collapsed medical services. (Al Jazeera)
