India Moves to Let E-Commerce Firms Export Goods Directly

Jarida Report

India is preparing a proposal to loosen foreign investment regulations, which will allow e-commerce services such as Amazon to buy Indian sellers’ goods and export them directly to foreign markets.

The transformation would involve a transition to the present position of them as simple operators in the marketplace. The reports highlight that the relaxed regulations would only apply to exports and that stringent measures would be taken against abuse.

According to the government, the reform is to create new opportunities to the small Indian exporters. Critics, such as the local retailers have warned that it might offer undue advantage to large platforms. The bill is yet to be approved by the cabinet.
