UK Deputy PM Warns Palestine Recognition Not a Shortcut to Statehood

Jarida Report

On Sunday, Britain Deputy Prime Minister, David Lammy warned that anything to recognize Palestine would not form a state within a day. During his speech in London, before the expected policy statement by Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Lammy emphasized that recognition should be included in a broader peace process that includes negotiating with Israel.

His comments were in the backdrop of increased diplomatic controversy regarding the involvement of UK in the Middle East peace talks following the resurgence of violence in Gaza.

They believe that recognition would serve Palestinian interests, whereas opponents believe it would worsen their relationship with Israel. The pressure is mounting both locally and internationally as the government weighs its decision.
