Deaths while cleaning and falling into open gutters and manholes occur very often in Pakistan, particularly in major cities like Karachi, where terrible management of drainage systems, missing or broken covers, and inadequate lighting causes dire conditions.
Keeping in mind that it is not just the height of the drop but, the toxic sewage and lack of oxygen which make it easy to suffocate or drown within minutes. An event pertaining to this happened in Karachi where Three sanitation workers died as they fell into a manhole while cleaning it in Karachi’s Usmanabad neighbourhood.
