Nepal in Crisis: Protest Leaders, Army in Talks to Appoint Interim Government

Jarida Report

Following days of violent Gen Z protests that killed 30 and injured over 1,000, the army of Nepal has gone into negotiations with activist leaders to place an interim leader. The protests were a response to a social media ban that was subsequently lifted, and popular frustration with corruption and unemployment.

Former Chief Justice Sushila Karki is the new favorite to fill the interim position; she has even offered to represent the protesters but some groups are still divided. The Kathmandu streets are highly guarded with curfews still in place and the authorities are trying to reestablish order, with the interim arrangement still being negotiated.
