Egypt Expands Morality Crackdown, Social Media Creators Targeted

Jarida Report

According to the report published by Human Rights Watch on September 10, 2025, Egyptian authorities have stepped up arrests of online creators, with at least 29 individuals, 19 women and one minor arrested since July. The majority of the victims are TikTok users who are suspected of acts that challenge family values or disseminate indecent content on weak moral grounds.

According to rights groups, the campaign is a larger effort to suppress digital rights and silence youth activism in a country where social media has become a rarity of self-expression. Critics caution that the crackdown is eroding privacy and freedom of speech, an issue that raises concerns about Egypt regarding human rights.
