South Korea has vowed to provide full diplomatic and legal support for its nationals who fall victim to one of the largest immigration crackdowns in the United States. Nearly 475 South Korean workers have been arrested in a federal raid at a car battery plant near Savannah, Georgia.
The facility, run jointly by Korean companies, had depended on foreign visa workers, many of whom are now being pursued for immigration charges. Foreign Minister Cho Hyun said Seoul has formed an emergency team to investigate and is working with U.S. authorities to make sure due process and fair treatment are followed. He also hinted at a high-level visit to Washington if the situation worsens.
