Aurangzeb, Traders Open Dialogue to Defuse Tax Tensions

Jarida Report

Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb has initiated talks with business leaders to address growing concerns over new tax measures introduced in the Finance Act 2025—especially Section 37A, which targets sales tax fraud. Traders had threatened strikes, fearing misuse and harassment, but the government has assured them the law will only target fraudulent practices, not genuine businesses. A 30-day consultative committee—comprising government officials and trade representatives—has been formed to resolve the dispute and present recommendations to the prime minister.
