During a key visit to Beijing, Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar told his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi that normalising India-China relations depends on two things: pulling troops back from the disputed border and avoiding trade restrictions.
The message comes amid improving ties after years of tension, especially since the deadly 2020 clash in Ladakh. Jaishankar said progress had been made on easing military tensions, but warned that curbs on trade — like China’s recent restrictions on vital minerals — could damage that momentum.
China’s officials echoed a desire for better relations, urging both sides to keep building trust and expand cooperation.
