Three-Month Rent Support Announced for Families Displaced by Karachi Demolitions

Jarida Report

Following the collapse of a building in Lyari on July 5, the Sindh government has moved swiftly to demolish 54 other dangerously unstable structures across Karachi’s old city. To help those forced out of their homes, Sindh’s Local Government Minister Saeed Ghani announced that the government will cover three months’ rent for all affected families—both owners and tenants. A dedicated committee has been set up to oversee the rescue, relief, and resettlement of these displaced residents—and the rent support could be extended up to six months or even a year depending on each family’s needs and the progress of their rehabilitation.
