U.S. Removes Terrorist Label from Syria’s Hay’at Tahrir al‑Sham

Jarida Report

The U.S. government has officially revoked the Foreign Terrorist Organization designation for Hay’at Tahrir al‑Sham (HTS)—formerly al‑Nusrah Front—through a memo dated June 23 and filed in the Federal Register this week. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, alongside the attorney general and treasury secretary, approved the move as part of a strategic shift to reintegrate Syria into the global financial system after HTS leader Ahmed al‑Sharaa’s interim government toppled Assad. This follows an executive order ending many U.S. sanctions on Syria, though targeted measures remain.
