Over 60 Ashura processions in Rawalpindi commence under tight security

In Rawalpindi on July 6, 2025, police and security forces organized 65 Muharram processions—16 designated as highly sensitive, 8 as moderately sensitive, and 41 as regular—under a heightened security regime  . A Safe City control centre, monitored by approximately 2,000 CCTV cameras, is overseeing the event. Snipers have been stationed atop buildings along the procession routes for added protection  .

About 8,000 personnel are on duty, including 5,500 police officers and 1,000 traffic police, with over 1,000 volunteers assisting  . Walk-through gates with full body checks, metal detectors, and pre-procession sweeps along the routes have been arranged  . Streets have been sealed with barbed wire, and traffic diversions are in place.

Emergency services are ready: four ambulances, mobile clinics and health camps are stationed, and three major hospitals have cancelled staff leave to remain on high alert. Life-saving medicines, blood supplies, and 30–40 dedicated beds are also on standby  . During the monsoon season, teams are prepared to manage potential flooding with pumps and dewatering equipment

Additionally, Pakistan Army and Rangers joined police in a flag march across the city Saturday to underscore readiness  . The Metro Bus service between Islamabad and Rawalpindi has been suspended on July 6–7 as a precaution  .
