New travel system for Iran‑Iraq pilgrims to roll out from 2026

Pakistan’s government has unveiled a revamped travel management system for pilgrims heading to Iran and Iraq. Starting January 1, 2026, the existing “Salar System” will be phased out and replaced with a mandatory “Zaireen Group Organisers” model, requiring pilgrims to travel only via registered organisers. So far, 1,413 group organiser applications have been submitted and are under scrutiny. Measures also include tighter controls by FIA against unauthorised travelers. Additionally, the Civil Aviation Authority has increased weekly flights to Iran from six to fifteen, alongside 107 special flights for Arbaeen-bound pilgrims. A ferry service is planned, with land corridor use to be reassessed post‑Ashura
