Pakistan’s experienced cueist Mohammad Asif suffered a narrow 3–2 defeat to Scotland’s Ross Valance in the first round of the Commonwealth Snooker Championship in Mauritius. Asif, a five-time international title winner, won the first and third frames but couldn’t hold his lead. Valance leveled twice and clinched the deciding fifth frame 44–21. The close contest ended Asif’s singles campaign in the tournament. His early exit was unexpected, given his strong record and experience on the international snooker circuit.
