Punjab Government Launches Restoration of Seven Historic Cholistan Forts

Punjab authorities have unveiled a Rs 2.90 billion initiative aimed at rescuing seven crumbling forts in the Cholistan Desert, including Derawar, Jamgarh, Meergarh, Maujgarh, Deengarh, Phulra, and Marot. So far, Rs 1.89 billion has been released from this budget, enabling restoration work to begin at Derawar Fort, according to South Punjab Additional Chief Secretary Fuad Hashim Rabbani  . The project also envisages expanding efforts to preserve 20 additional forts later. It aligns with a broader strategy allocating Rs 4 billion towards tourism infrastructure in South Punjab, including parks and national-park conservation, to boost regional employment and heritage tourism
