Hall of Fame horse trainer D. Wayne Lukas has retired after being diagnosed with a serious MRSA infection. Opting to forgo aggressive medical treatment, Lukas has chosen to spend his remaining time with family. Renowned for his historic impact on racing, Lukas secured 15 Triple Crown victories and 20 Breeders’ Cup wins, earning four Eclipse Awards for Outstanding Trainer. Notable horses under his care included Winning Colors, Thunder Gulch, and Serena’s Song. His assistant, Bas Nicholl, will now lead the stable. Thoughts and support go out to Lukas and his family during this time.
