Pakistan’s Steel Industry Struggles with Energy Efficiency Oversight

Jarida Report

A recent study by the National Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (NEECA) reveals that Pakistan’s steel sector lacks proper energy monitoring systems, making it the least energy-efficient among key industries. Despite accounting for 15% of industrial energy use, many steel units don’t track their consumption or have energy managers. NEECA urges mandatory energy audits and training, warning that without improvements, the sector will remain wasteful and uncompetitive amid rising fuel costs and global climate concerns.
