Iran has executed Mojahed (Abbas) Kourkouri, arrested during the 2022 anti-government protests, for allegedly killing seven people, including 9-year-old Kian Pirfalak. Kian’s family blames security forces for his death. Amnesty International condemned the execution, citing torture, solitary confinement, forced confessions, and a grossly unfair trial without access to an independent lawyer. Kourkouri is the 11th known protest-related execution. Human rights groups accuse Iran’s leaders of state violence and call for global action against the ongoing wave of politically motivated executions.
