Jarida Report

Opposition Leader in the National Assembly, Omar Ayub Khan, has formally requested National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq to establish a parliamentary committee to appoint a new Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) and two members of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) representing Sindh and Balochistan. In his letter, Ayub highlighted that the constitutional deadline for these appointments expired on March 12, 2025, and emphasized the necessity of initiating the process under Article 213(2B) of the Constitution. He nominated six opposition members for the committee: from the National Assembly—PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, former NA Speaker Asad Qaiser, Sunni Ittehad Council Chairman Sahibzada Hamid Raza, and MNA Latif Khosa; and from the Senate—Senators Shibli Faraz and Allama Raja Nasir. Ayub stressed the importance of adhering to constitutional mandates to ensure the timely and lawful appointment of ECP officials.
