Eleven people were killed and three others wounded after gunmen opened fire on a gathering at a home in South Africa’s KwaZulu-Natal province, local media reported.
The attack occurred in the KwaMakhutha township, south of Durban, shortly before 11pm local time on Tuesday, according to South African television channel eNCA.
The victims had been gathered inside a residential property when unidentified assailants entered the premises and opened fire. A pregnant woman was reportedly among those killed.
Ten people died at the scene, while another victim succumbed to injuries while being transported to hospital. Three other people were wounded.
Before fleeing, the attackers reportedly set fire to a vehicle belonging to the homeowner.
The motive for the shooting remains unclear. Authorities had not announced any arrests or identified the suspected attackers at the time of the report.
